Export your application and your data
Take a copy of your application's model, its build and all its data, and what it means to run it without Divvent.
Your application and its data are yours. At any time, an owner of the account can take a full copy of them away. Exporting changes nothing: the application keeps running exactly as before, and nobody using it will notice.
Who can export
Only an owner of the account. Other people on the account do not see the Export tab.
Exporting also needs a fresh sign-in: your passkey or authenticator app from the last five minutes. If it has been longer, the tab gives you a link to Sign in again with your passkey or authenticator app. Then start the export within five minutes.
Take a copy
- Open your application and go to Settings, then the Export tab.
- In the first section, which starts with Take and your application's name, type the word export in the box and press Start an export.
- Three downloads appear. They work for ten minutes, and only in the browser you started from:
| Button | What you get |
|---|---|
| Download the model | What Divvent understands your application to be, as text files, with every earlier version of it. |
| Download the build | The application exactly as production runs it now, with its source and instructions for running it yourself. |
| Download the data | A copy of everything your application holds: every kind of record and every row. |
A button is greyed out when there is nothing to take yet, for example before any version has been released to production.
If the ten minutes run out, start another export. You can export as often as you like.
What is in the data file, and what is not
The data file holds everything your application holds, people's records included. Keep it wherever you would keep your business records, and delete copies you no longer need.
It does not include:
- Live sign-ins. People sign in again to any copy made from the file. Passwords are included, so those still work.
- Photos and files. The data file has references to them, but the files themselves stay in your application's storage.
Divvent never sees your data
Your application makes the data file itself, in its own storage, and your browser downloads it straight from there. The portal only asks your application to make the copy. The link to the file stops working after ten minutes.
Who is told
- Every owner of the account is emailed when an export starts, with who started it and when. If it was not someone on your account, change your password and your second factor straight away, and tell us.
- Every step is recorded on the application's Activity tab, and on the application's own audit trail. The records never include any of the data.
Run it without Divvent
Ejecting means deciding to run the application yourself, on hosting of your own, from its export. It deletes nothing and moves nothing. What stops, from the moment you confirm, is everything Divvent does to it.
It is confirmed twice, and each step needs a fresh sign-in:
- On the Export tab, under Run it without Divvent, type the application's name exactly and press Begin ejecting.
- The page lists what stops and what keeps working. Read it.
- Type the word eject and press Eject followed by your application's name. You have ten minutes, in the same browser.
Every owner of the account is emailed when an application is ejected.
What stops
- Changes in the portal: asking for changes, the editors, approvals and releases.
- Changes made by the AI.
- Platform updates, including security fixes. You apply updates to your own copy yourself.
- An owner's tools in the portal for resetting your users' sign-in, handing the application over, and erasing a person.
- Divvent's nightly backup and 30-day rollback.
What keeps working
- The application itself, running where it is, with its data, until the account closes it. So you can set up your own copy first.
- Export. You can take the data once more when your own copy is ready.
When your own copy is running, contact us and we close the copy on Divvent. There is no button for that yet.
Moving your users
- Passwords carry over in the data file.
- Passkeys carry over only if the application keeps the same web address.
- Authenticator apps and backup codes do not carry over. Your users set them up again at their next sign-in.
- Connected services need their details entered again on your own hosting.
- Email needs a sending account of your own.
Changing your mind
An ejection cannot be undone from the portal. If you need it reversed, contact us before you close anything. Because nothing was deleted, the application is still where it was.
What you may do with an export
You may run, change and host your exported application for your own business, for as long as you like, including if Divvent stops. You may not offer the parts of it that Divvent wrote to others as a platform.
Those terms are decided. The full licence text that will carry them is still being written, and until it is published the terms above are the whole of it.
Other ways to get your data
- To keep a copy for safety, Divvent already takes a nightly backup. See Backups and restoring your data.
- To hand one person their own records, use your application's privacy desk. See Privacy: what is kept about people, and erasing someone.
