Change your pages
Rearrange, retitle, resize and add sections on your application's pages, see them on a phone, a tablet or a desktop, and ask for the result as one change.
The Pages tab shows your application's pages as your users see them, and lets you change them by pointing and picking. Nothing you do here changes the live application straight away: every edit goes into one draft, and the draft becomes a change you read and approve like any other.
You find it under What it is, on the Pages tab. Owners, admins and editors can make changes here. Anyone else who can open the application can look.
What you see
At the top are three choices:
- Page is which page to look at.
- View as is which of your application's roles to look at it as. A technician and an office manager may see different sections on the same page, because each only sees what they are allowed to see.
- Show on switches the preview between Phone, Tablet and Desktop.
The middle of the screen is the page itself, drawn by your application with made-up records, never your customers' real ones. The address in your browser remembers the page, the role and the screen size, so you can send a colleague a link to exactly what you are looking at.
Beside the preview (below it on a narrow screen) is a panel with three tabs: This page, Add a section and Menu.
Change a page
Click a part of the page in the preview, or choose it from the list of sections on the This page tab. Its settings open underneath:
- Heading is the title shown above the section. Leave it empty for no heading.
- Show it as lets you draw the same records another way, for example as a table instead of a list, where your application offers another way.
- Width on a larger screen is how much of the row the section takes on a tablet or a desktop: The whole row, Half or A third. This only appears on pages laid out in columns. On a phone, sections sit one under another.
- Details it shows lets you tick which details of a record a section shows, where the section is a set of details.
- Remove from this page takes the section off. A page always keeps at least one section.
To change the order, drag a section up or down in the list, or use the arrow keys on its handle.
If a section shows something your application no longer has, the screen says so. Remove it, or ask on Changes for it to be put right.
Add a section
On the Add a section tab, pick what you want to add: each choice has a small drawing of what it looks like and says what it is in plain words, such as a list, a map or a calendar. Some choices need your records to gain a detail first, such as a date on each visit. Those ask you what to call the new detail before they are added.
What cannot be added to this page is behind Why can’t I add…?, with a sentence explaining each one.
Change the menu
The Menu tab shows the menu your users see. It is the same on every page. You can:
- drag an item to reorder it,
- click a name to rename it,
- remove an item with the cross beside it,
- put a page that is not in the menu into it, with Add a page to the menu.
Ask for your change
At the bottom of the screen a line says how many changes are in your draft and who approves them. When you are happy, press Review this change. It opens the change's own page, where you see exactly what it does before and after, and approve it or decline it. See Read a change and approve it.
- Most page changes are yours to approve. Some are approved by our team first, always including one that lets someone reach more than they could before, and the draft line says which before you press anything.
- Start again throws the draft away and shows the application as it is.
- The same draft is shared with the Flows, Permissions and Change the model tabs, and the links under the draft line take you there. One change can include edits from all four, and you ask for it once.
- Your draft is kept for you, even if you close the browser, for up to seven days. If the application changes in the meantime, the draft can no longer be used and the screen asks you to start again.
Approving a change makes a new version. It is not live until you release it: see Release a version.
What you can't change here
The page editor rearranges and adjusts what your pages already hold. You can't add a whole new page, change the colours or the theme, or change the tabs on a page here. Ask for those in your own words on Changes: see Ask for a change.
