Templates and the marketplace
Start an application from a ready-made template, add parts of one to an application you have, rate templates, and publish your own.
A template is a ready-made application built only from Divvent's own parts: its kinds of record, pages, roles, rules, flows, reports and worked examples. It holds no data and no one else's code. Starting from a template gives you a working application straight away, which you then change like any other.
Find a template
On the Needs you page, press Marketplace. It lists Divvent's own templates, marked as by Divvent, and every template another company published and our team reviewed.
Divvent's own templates are:
- Field service: sites, equipment, jobs, technicians, parts, quotes, invoices and service plans. A good start for a heating company or a cleaning company.
- Bookings and appointments: clients, services, staff, bookings, memberships and payments. A good start for a salon or a dog groomer.
- Fleet: vehicles, drivers, trips, fuel, defects and maintenance.
- Shop: products, customers, orders, card payments through Stripe, and receipts. A good start for a bakery taking orders.
Each card tells you, before you open it:
- Holds: what kind of information it keeps, such as personal details about people.
- Sends to: every service outside your application it connects to, or "Nowhere outside your application".
- Its rating from companies that have used it.
Type in Search templates and press Search to find one by its title, summary or publisher.
Read a template's page
Open a template to see:
- What it adds: each kind of record and how many fields it has, and how many pages, roles, actions, flows, reports and worked examples. The worked examples are tested every time your application is built.
- Its first changes: three changes it suggests once it is installed. They are offered to you as requests you can send as they are.
- What it holds, where it sends and who may do what: what stands out first, every outside service it sends to, and a table of each role and what it may do.
- What companies say: ratings and comments from companies that used it. They are shown as "A company", never with a name.
Start a new application from a template
Press Start an application from followed by the template's name. You name the application and say where the business is, as for any new application (see Create your first application). The template's installation is your application's first change: you read what it adds and approve it, and it becomes your first version.
If what you approve is exactly the template, as Divvent published it or as our team reviewed it, the approval is yours to give. If anything is different, it goes to our team first, like any other change.
If your plan has no room for another application, the page says so and links to your plan instead.
Install a template into an application with no first version
If one of your applications has no first version yet, for example because its first description could not be sent, the template's page offers Install into followed by that application's name. It works the same way: the template becomes the application's first change, for you to read and approve (see Read a change and approve it).
Add parts of a template to an application you have
Under Add parts of it to an application you have, choose an application and press Show its parts. There is one part for each kind of record, and each says what it would add and which of your own things of the same name it keeps. Your own things always stay.
Tick the parts you want and press Ask for these parts. This becomes a change, checked like any other: depending on its size, you or our team approve it.
Take a newer version of a template
When a newer version of a template you installed is published, its page shows it under Newer versions for your applications, with what it changes. Press Ask for the update to followed by your application's name to get it as a change.
- Anything you changed yourself that the newer version also changes stays as you had it.
- Anything the newer version no longer has stays in your application. An update never removes something you might have records in.
Rate a template
Once your company has used a template, an owner or admin can rate it from one to five stars and add a comment, then press Save your rating. Rating again replaces your earlier rating. Don't name anyone: a comment with an email address or a phone number in it is refused. You can't rate your own company's template.
Publish your own template
An owner can publish one of your applications as a template for other businesses to use. From the Marketplace, press Publish one of your applications as a template.
What is published is your application's latest approved version, with your company taken out of it. None of your application's data goes with it. You fill in:
- Application to publish.
- Template name in addresses: lower case words joined by hyphens, such as van-fleet. It is yours for good.
- Title, In a sentence or two, and What it is for and how it works.
- Three first changes to offer a company once it is installed.
Then press Submit for review.
What it must not contain
Your template is refused, and nothing of it is kept, if:
- anything in it could name a real person. Every worked example must use made-up details: email addresses ending example.invalid, and phone numbers beginning +44 7700 900, which are set aside for examples;
- it uses anything other than Divvent's own parts, such as code written specially for your application;
- nothing has changed since your last version.
Review by our team
Under Your submissions you can follow each version as it goes through:
- Divvent's automatic checks, when you submit.
- Being built: Divvent installs it into an application of its own and runs all of its tests.
- Waiting for review: our team reads what it holds, where it sends and who may do what, and approves it or rejects it with a reason.
Once approved, it is published on the marketplace. The first version is 1.0.0, and later versions are numbered by what changed. Companies that installed an earlier version are offered the new one as a change. You can press Withdraw it while a submission is still waiting.
Price
Every template is free to install, and free to publish. You can't charge for a template yet.
